Colorado Gives Day Final Tally

What a difference tripling the Incentive Fund made this year for the Imagine! Foundation on Colorado Gives Day (Dec. 9). We received $1,040.00 from the $1 million Incentive Fund, bringing the total we received on this annual day of giving to $24,334.00.

Overall, Colorado donors once again demonstrated unprecedented generosity by giving $26.2 million to 1,677 nonprofits in just 24 hours on Colorado Gives Day. This record-breaking amount surpasses last year’s $20.5 million total. A record number of 107,862 donations were recorded, a jump from last year’s total of 88,571. Donations ranged from $10 to $300,000.

Thank you to our many friends who supported Imagine! and the many other worthy participating organizations, and thanks especially to Colorado Community First Foundation and 1stBank.

Imagine! Holiday Gift Giving Program – It’s A Wrap

Last week, Imagine! “wrapped” up its annual Holiday Gift Giving program, and once again, we were overwhelmed by the generosity of our community. Because of the many donations we received, 622 individuals served by Imagine! (515 children and 107 adults) received gifts that made their Holiday just a little bit brighter. In all, this year’s Gift Drive resulted in 925 gifts (and an additional $976 in cash donations allowing for the purchase of more gifts). Wow! We are so grateful.

We’d like to offer some shout outs to some local business and organizations who participated in this incredibly successful event.

The Boulder Group at Robert W. Baird & Co donated 192 gifts for adults and children as well as a $250 donation that was used toward the purchase of additional gifts

The Center for Spiritual Living Boulder Valley donated gifts for 30 children

A group of grad students from the University of Colorado, Boulder donated $467 that they raised within the Chemical Engineering Department

The Imagine! Board of Directors donated gifts for 20 children and adults

Lockheed Martin donated and delivered gifts and food to 10 families

Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Broomfield donated gifts for 210 children

Re/Max Alliance in Longmont donated 35 gifts for adults

Seagate Technology donated gifts for 10 children

Tebo Properties donated 194 gifts for children

We’d also like to thank the many individuals (especially Imagine! employees) who donated gifts and helped deliver them.

Very special thanks go to Imagine!’s Volunteer Coordinator Elizabeth Hill for heading up this huge project. It isn't always easy, but the joy it brings is remarkable. Great work, Elizabeth!

Below are a few pictures from some of the events that brought in donations.

Thank You, 1stBank Center

Today, we’d like to say thanks to 1stBank Center in Broomfield for donating a suite at their venue so individuals served by Imagine! could attend the “So You Think You Can Dance?” 2014 Dance Tour last week.

Residents from the Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome in Boulder went to the show, along with staff members from the home and from Imagine!'s CORE/Labor Source department, and had a blast!

Shannon Bundy, site supervisor at the Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome, shared the photos below and told us: “It was so awesome to see how much John, Lana, and Mandy enjoyed this outing! John was dancing and laughing and cheering for the dancers. I have never seen Lana smile so big. And even though Mandy was not feeling very well, she enjoyed it and wanted to stay till the end. John says his favorite dancer was the ballerina.”

Thank you, 1stBank Center, for making this magical evening a reality!

Colorado Gives Day Success!

Last Tuesday was Colorado Gives Day, and the Imagine! Foundation raised $23,745 from 130 donors during that day of giving!

This year’s total was a 36% increase over last year’s, when we raised $17,425 from 91 donors.

In response to a thank you email to one of the Colorado Gives Day donors, we received this note:

I had been aware of Imagine! for years but didn't fully realize the scope of its services until this year. My grandson is receiving assistance from both an OT and a Speech Therapist through Imagine!. You cannot even imagine what a positive difference these people have made in the lives of my grandson, his parents, and other family members. Thank you so much for all that you do.

The Imagine! Foundation wishes to thank all who donated and all who helped spread the word!

A Very Zolo Thanksgiving

Today, we'd like to express our thanks to Dave Query, who once again treated Imagine! clients and their families to a traditional turkey dinner on Thanksgiving Day. This was the 11th year Query has hosted this event, and it was held at Dave’s Zolo Southwestern Grill in Boulder.

There were three seatings, and all three were filled to capacity!

Dave Query is the owner of Big Red F Restaurant Group, including restaurants Centro Latin Kitchen, Jax Fish House – Boulder, Denver, Fort Collins, Glendale, and Kansas City, LoLa Coastal Mexican, Post Brewing Company, West End Tavern, and Zolo Grill. Dave donated the makings for a delicious Zolo-style repast with all the trimmings, and the wait staff volunteered its time. There was no charge for the meal, and no tips were necessary.

The event was a blast. Here’s what Brent Bedard, Zolo’s Manager, had to say about the experience: “It was such a lovely day. There were so many volunteers coming from different places and I don't think we could have come up with a nicer crew of people to get the job done. There are so many fabulous memories and images in my head. It's all warm and fuzzy in my brain and my heart. The day felt like family, caring and all that is good in this world. Moms with babies in baby bjorns, kids working, smiles everywhere. Love, gratitude, and togetherness filled the room.”

Pictured below are Brent with Richard Ackerman, a member of the Imagine! Foundation Board of Directors, who volunteered at the event, Brent with Jen Soranson, Manager of Parties and Catering at Zolo, and baby Madeline, and Gerry, Susan, and Peter McNutt, shown enjoying their meal.

In addition to the meals, $461.25 was donated to the Imagine! Foundation by attendees and volunteers.

All in all, it was a fabulous day, and we are so appreciative of Dave, Brent, the Big Red F restaurants who pitched in to supply some of the food, the Zolo staff, and the volunteers. What a great example of community and something truly worth giving thanks for!

Thank You Thursday!

Welcome to a special Thanksgiving version of “Thank You Thursday.” We’ve had some generous support around this special day, and would like to share our thanks to those who have helped out.

On Monday and Tuesday nights, a total of 25 volunteers (some of whom are pictured below) helped Imagine! deliver 50 Thanksgiving meals to individuals and families we serve who otherwise wouldn’t be able to enjoy a Holiday feast. The meals included a pre-cooked turkey, sides, pies, and sparkling cider. Deliveries went off without a hitch and families were so thankful for the support in time for Thanksgiving!

The meals were paid for through a crowdfunding campaign in which generous donors helped us meet our goal of $1K in less than three days! Donors to this campaign included: Leigh Thorpe, Rebecca Baumann Martinez, Susan Gabriel, Parker Brissette, Karen Kalis, Laura Ball, Mia Sanchez O’Dell, Katie Edwards, Carla Rapp, Christie Talkington, Patti Micklin, Fred Hobbs, Sterling Wind, Sharon Reamer, Cori Abate, Pat Hoffman, Jeanne Walsh, Caroline Siegfried, Eva Klemens, and Essie Siegfried. Below is the video produced for the fundraising campaign.

So on this day of thanks, we join John and Chris (pictured below, residents of Imagine!'s Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome) in wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving and in saying “thank you” to all the people who made this possible. We live in a great community.

Harry The Bear Comes To Imagine!

Today we’d like to say “thanks” and offer a big bear hug to the good folks at the Millennium Harvest House Boulder for their donation of “Harry the Bear” to Imagine!.

In the picture below, Harry is flanked by Kate Bleakley, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Millennium Harvest House, on the left, and Elizabeth Hill, Imagine!’s Volunteer Coordinator, on the right. Harry will probably need to leave us soon as one of the gifts in Imagine!’s Holiday Gift Giving Drive, but for right now, he has quickly become adopted by the Imagine! staff as an unofficial mascot.

Thanks to the Millennium Harvest House Boulder for thinking of us, and thanks to Harry for making our day just a little more bear-able!

Supporting Imagine! Also Supports The Economy

Your generous support helps Imagine! and the individuals we serve thrive. But that support isn’t just good for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It’s also good for the economy!

The Human Services Alliance of Boulder County and the St. Vrain Community Council commissioned the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business, Business Research Division, to conduct a study of the economic impact of Boulder County human services nonprofits on the Boulder County economy. The purpose of this study was to understand the quantitative impact, specifically, the amount of money these nonprofits contribute to the local economy.

Did you know that local nonprofits in Boulder County have a $254.8 Million economic impact on the community?

Support CU Students Supporting Imagine!

You may be aware of Imagine!’s ongoing collaboration with the University of Colorado Engineering School, where students create a variety of assistive technology projects for individuals served by Imagine!. (Haven't heard of it? Check out here, here, here, here, and here for just a few examples of projects).

Well, students this semester are at it again, and one group has taken their project to the next level. They have entered their project into an Elevations Credit Union contest, wherein Elevations is giving away up to $1,500 to help fund local projects that support the Boulder community. As they put it, Elevations wants to support “CU Buffs that are doing something awesome for their community.”

The winners of the funding are determined in part by an online vote on Facebook, and you can help. Click here and vote for “Electronic Color Organ Box.” You can vote once daily, and the contest runs through Friday, so don’t be shy – feel free to vote every day.

Here is how the students are describing their project and how they would use the funds:

Our awesome project is an electronic color organ box. A phone or music player is plugged into it, and six different boxes will light up based on the bass, mid, and treble sounds from the music. There will be two columns of boxes, the bottom two are the biggest and will light up the same color with the base. The middle two will light up a different color together with the mid frequencies. And the top two boxes will light up a third color with the high frequencies. There will be three different color schemes that the user can choose for the boxes to be through a remote. The remote will also be able to control the volume of the music and intensity of the light. This electronic color organ box will be put in Imagine!’s Charles Family SmartHome in Longmont, CO, which is a home for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We will use the money for electronic boards such as an arduino and spectrum shield. A spectrum shield breaks up the frequencies of the music. Also, we will buy nice acrylic to make the boxes and so the light will have a nice glow through it. We will buy LEDs for the colored light, an AC/DC cord, and miscellaneous things such as wires and screws. The money will definitely be put to good use!

Thanks for helping out, and thanks especially to the CU students for adding their project to this contest!

Don’t forget to vote

Imagine! A Great Thanksgiving

This time of year can be especially difficult for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who often find themselves alone and isolated from their communities during the holidays, and unable to access Thanksgiving meals.

Can’t see the video? Click here

Imagine! has set a goal to reach out to these individuals and families who are most in need and isolated this Thanksgiving. Our goal is to reach 50 individuals and families by raising $1,000 that will go directly to purchasing meals to be delivered the week of Thanksgiving!

All donors will receive a note of thanks from Imagine! for helping us make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.

All donations will provide meals at Thanksgiving even if we are unable to reach the $1,000 goal.

Please click here to donate, and thanks for making Thanksgiving great for individuals served by Imagine!.

Imagine! Stats

Today, we are pleased to share highlights of Imagine!’s most recently ended fiscal year (FY 2013-2104). Over the course of the year, Imagine! provided case management or service coordination for a total of 2,972 individuals throughout Boulder and Broomfield Counties. More than 900 (30%) of people served by Imagine! were babies and toddlers with developmental delays; the rest were children, youth, and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Imagine! also provided a range of direct services to these individuals.

Here’s a breakdown of some of those services:

Imagine!’s Family Support division:
  • Provided information and referrals to more than 1,400 families providing at-home care for an individual with I/DD.
  • Provided financial support to the families of 60 children with extraordinary needs arising from I/DD and physical disabilities who were waitlisted for Medicaid-funded services.
  • Helped parents of 60 children with autism spectrum disorders to select and pay for services such as psychological counseling, behavioral therapy, or social skills coaching.
Imagine!’s Innovations division:
  • Supervised foster placements and care for 29 children whose special needs could not be met by their birth parents.
  • Provided a variety of residential services – responsive to individual needs and capabilities – to 194 adults with I/DD. This number included 28 individuals who required round-the-clock, hands-on staff supports.
Imagine!’s Dayspring division:
  • Helped 315 babies and toddlers with developmental delays to improve their communication, motor, and/or social skills through early intervention therapies.
Imagine!’s Out & About division:
  • Assisted 48 school-aged children with I/DD in learning vital socialization skills to help them to participate more fully in society, while affording their parents the peace of mind that comes with safe and appropriate childcare during work hours, through Summer Camp, After School, and School Closure Day programs.
  • Promoted the safety, growth, and development of 158 local adults with I/DD by giving them access to special outings and activities in the community.
Imagine!’s CORE/Labor Source division:
  • Provided job training, placement, coaching, and supervision for 123 adults with I/DD.
  • Fostered the growth, development, and safety of 205 adults with I/DD through enriching and therapeutic day programs and classes.
Imagine!’s Behavioral Health Services (IBHS):
  • Provided comprehensive mental health services to 210 individuals with dual (mental illness and I/DD) diagnoses.
  • Provided a broad range of behavioral health services to 87 individuals, and educated their parents and caregivers about ways to build cooperative behavior.
Thank you to all of our supporters. We couldn't do what we do without their help!

Wish Granted!

The Imagine! Foundation’s Wish List is an effort to increase opportunities for donations that will help Imagine! meet its mission. The Wish List includes items that would augment and enhance Imagine! programs for the individuals we serve.

Today we’d like to thank Bob and Judy Charles for granting one of our wishes! The pair, who have been generous supporters of Imagine! since the inception of the Imagine! Foundation, recently donated a garden shed for Imagine!’s 19th St. Group Home. You can see a picture of Site Supervisor Anna Knott posing with the new shed below. A cool feature of the shed: the top slides back like a car moon roof so you can access the contents easier.

Thank you, Bob and Judy, for once again demonstrating your commitment to improving the lives of the individuals we serve!
